1990 GT Tequesta Built, Not Restored

This 1990 GT Tequesta was built from a bare frame into the kind of bike that feels equally at home bombing gravel paths, cruising city streets, or hanging on a collector’s wall. Finished in the original splatter paint with matching GT frame and stem, it captures the raw, experimental energy of early-90s mountain biking perfectly.

Period-Correct Performance

Underneath the retro aesthetic is a seriously capable build. The bike runs first-generation Shimano XTR hubs and derailleurs paired with XT thumb shifters — legendary components from Shimano’s golden era of mountain biking. A smooth 3×8 drivetrain keeps it versatile, while the Race Face Turbine cranks add a piece of Canadian MTB history, complete with the original Broadway Cycles sticker from Bloor West Toronto.

Rare Details Everywhere

This build is packed with hard-to-find touches that make vintage MTB nerds stop ad stare. Rare Azonic brake levers, genuine Shimano orange cable housing, XCII bear trap pedals, and subtle purple anodized accents give the bike a proper 90s vibe without feeling overdone. Even the Japanese crane bell feels perfectly chosen.

Surprisingly Comfortable

Despite its age, Tequesta rides incredibly well. Continental Trail King 2.2″ tires smooth out rough pavement and dirt alike, while titanium-railed Avocet O2 Air saddle keeps things lightweight and shockingly comfortable. ODI grips and a responsive U-brake setup round out a bike that’s as fun to ride as it is to look at.

Part retro mountain bike, part all-road cruiser, part conversation piece — this GT Tequesta is the definition of a do-anything bike. Clean, mechanically solid, and loaded with era-correct upgrades, it’s the kind of build that only gets cooler with time.
