Open Streets

Open Streets

Turning our streets into vibrant and active public spaces.

In Summer 2015, B!KE was proud to be a leading partner in creating our community’s first Open Streets event, Peterborough Pulse. Open Streets events temporarily transform our largest public space – our streets – into a paved park. Streets once filled with cars instead fill with people on bikes, families pushing strollers, dog-walkers, roller skaters, art installations, and more.

Open Streets is a global initiative that began in South America over 40 years ago. Currently, over 100 communities worldwide celebrate Open Streets events, and now Peterborough is proud to be one of the communities on this list! This year, Peterborough Pulse saw the downtown core come alive with over 1,000 community members biking, walking, and rolling through our Open Streets.

B!KE will continue to work with partners including GreenUp, the City of Peterborough, the Downtown Business Improvement Area, the Peterborough City-County Health Unit, and the Peterborough Bicycle Advisory Committee to make Peterborough Pulse a recurring event in our community.
