Hot Winter Biking Action: Jan 16-23

Ok. Maybe not “hot”…with the current frigid temperatures, it’s more likely that the best we can aim for is moderate warmth.

I digress: B!KE is going to heat you up with a great series of winter cycling events over the course of one week.

If you’re on the fence about this whole winter riding thing, check out some of the events coming up in the week of January 16-23.

We’ve got:

  • Group Ride | Sunday Jan 16, 12-2:30 | RSVP in the comments or email
Join a relaxed group of riders for a scenic ride around town. We’ll have warm drinks, snacks, and good times!
  • Winter Cycling Course | Sat Jan 22 | $20 | RSVP Green-Up or 745-3238 x203
A fast-paced course teaching real-world skills to empower and protect winter riders. Learn to ride intelligently and confiedently in traffic. Get solid advice about winter equipment, bike fit, gearing, tools and traffic law. More info here.
  • Local Shop Tour | Jan 17-23
These shops have all the gear and expert advice you need to ride in comfort year-round.
    Fontaine’s
    Greent St
    Green-Up
    Spokes ‘n’ Pedals
    Wild Rock

Many folks leave winter cycling to diehards and XTREME CYCLISTZ, but first-hand experience with B!KE members has proven that winter riders not as extraordinary as they’re generally perceived. The people using the shop all winter long are regular students, commuters and parents who’ve made a key change in their normal riding: a little preparation.

Preparation is really, honestly and truly all it takes to ride comfortably and safely all winter long. For most, this basically involves:

  • An extra layer (windbreaking is best)
  • Studded tires – DIY or store-bought (or very knobby tires running at the low end of their pressure range)
  • Common sense

Then SHAZAM!, you’re back out on the road riding as if it were a Summer day.

    Hey Clifford,
I’d love to do the winter bike fest but lack a winter bike. Will there be a workshop on how to prep one for the cold times? I have a feeling this happened in the fall and I missed the boat….
    thanks

    ps good looking posters!

      Hey Emony,
Winter bike time is any time!
Come down during any of the open-shop hours to get some tips on prepping your current bike for snow, or throwing together a winter beater from our selection of used mountain bikes.
      Cheers,
      Clifford
